Pickett was killed on April 6, 2008 in Baghdad, Iraq by indirect enemy fire. He was assigned to the 1132nd Military Police Company, North Carolina Army National Guard, Rocky Mount, N.C. and is the 8th North Carolina National Guard soldier killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan..
