April 15, 2008. Rose Hill, NC..Funeral services were held for National Guard Staff Sgt. Emanuel Pickett at the 1st Baptist Church in Wallace, NC., where he was a police officer.. SSgt. Pickett was killed on April 6, 2008 in Baghdad, Iraq by indirect enemy fire. He was assigned to the 1132nd Military Police Company, North Carolina Army National Guard, Rocky Mount, N.C. and is the 8th North Carolina National Guard soldier killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.. The flag flies at half mast at the Rose Hill police station, a town near Teachey, NC, the home of SSgt. Pickett.
