May 9, 2009. Boone, NC.. In the last weeks of their deployment in Iraq, the 1451st Transportation Company of the NC National Guard lost 2 men to an IED explosion. After returning home, 4 of the surviving soldiers took their own lives.. At the National Guard armory in Boone, a memorial has been built to honor the service men and women assigned to the 1451st Transportation Company who have died in Iraq. . The names of Jeff Wilson and Roger Parker, and 2 others, all of whom committed suicide after returning, have been added to the memorial.
