May 19, 2010. Pittsboro, North Carolina.. Elia Bizzarri makes rocking chairs the old fashioned way, by hand, using tools whose design date back hundreds of years. Working out of a shop in the woods outside Pittsboro, he takes 30 to 45 hours to make each hand crafted chair.. Bizzarri splits some white oak using a frow, an ancient fine woodsplitting tool. He buys his hardwoods in 1500 lb. logs from a lumber yard in Mebane.
