As unemployment has risen to 14% and the economy took a nosedive, Almand's Drug Store, an independently owned chain of 2 local stores, has seen a rise in uninsured customers having to choose between the drugs they have been prescribed and those they can afford putting the pharmacists in the position of health advisors and active participants in the health plans of their customers.. A pharmacy tech prepares a customer's prescription. Because the owners of the store had to close a downtown location, the volume in this store, which is about a mile from the closed one, has increased.
