May 11, 2009. Rocky Mount, NC.. As unemployment has risen to 14% and the economy took a nosedive, Almand's Drug Store, an independently owned chain of 2 local stores, has seen a rise in uninsured customers having to choose between the drugs they have been prescribed and those they can afford putting the pharmacists in the position of health advisors and active participants in the health plans of their customers.. Robert Brown came to the pharmacy to fill his sister's prescriptions. Almand's has helped many of their customers get cheaper drugs through various programs that set prices that compete with the large chain stores.
