May 11, 2009. Rocky Mount, NC.. As unemployment has risen to 14% and the economy took a nosedive, Almand's Drug Store, an independently owned chain of 2 local stores, has seen a rise in uninsured customers having to choose between the drugs they have been prescribed and those they can afford putting the pharmacists in the position of health advisors and active participants in the health plans of their customers.. Almand's has joined a program that allows it to give any of the drugs on this list to their uninsured customers at $4 for a 30 day supply. They also try to get doctors to prescribe generics or drugs that will fall under this significantly cheaper plan.
