May 11, 2009. Rocky Mount, NC.. As unemployment has risen to 14% and the economy took a nosedive, Almand's Drug Store, an independently owned chain of 2 local stores, has seen a rise in uninsured customers having to choose between the drugs they have been prescribed and those they can afford putting the pharmacists in the position of health advisors and active participants in the health plans of their customers.. Clerk Gloria Oliver helps take a customer's prescription over the phone. As many of the store's customers are older and lower income, the pharmacy provides delivery and a variety of generic drug options.
