February 27, 2013. Holgate, New Jersey. Much of the town of Holgate was rendered uninhabitable after Hurricane Sandy hit the area, with wrecked houses and a destroyed power grid preventing residents from returning.. Tracing the path of Hurricane Sandy, which wrecked havoc on the northeastern seaboard from October 25-31, 2012. The storm caused flooding and caused an estimated 60 billion dollars worth of damage to affected areas.
