September 13, 2007, Louisburg, NC..Michael Jones, owner of Mae Farms, a sustainable hog farm, waters the mud pit in one of the hog pens on his land. Jones used to work in the regular hog industry, where all the livestock are kept in very small pens, before going out on his own as a free range hog farmer. The pigs roam free in their pens, eating vegetation and their waste is returned to the land, as opposed to the massive, polluting waste pools at standard hog farms.
