At his home outside Blacksburg, Marc Edwards splits fallen wood reclaimed from the surrounding national forest under permit from the Forest Service. The house, where he lives with his wife and two children is fully heated with wood.
Marc Edwards is a civil engineering/environmental engineer and the Charles P. Lunsford Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech. He is an expert in water quality and corrosion, and his work in Washington DC and in Flint, Michigan helped to expose high levels of lead contamination in the water supplies of those two cities, triggering investigations into the cause of the pollution.
