June 30, 2016. Blacksburg, Virginia.
Ailene Edwards, 15, and her father Marc Edwards move water samples from Flint, MI into one of the labs at Virginia Tech. Both of the Edwards children spent 7 days in Flint helping with the continued water sampling efforts by students at Virginia Tech.
Marc Edwards is a civil engineering/environmental engineer and the Charles P. Lunsford Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech. He is an expert in water quality and corrosion, and his work in Washington DC and in Flint, Michigan helped to expose high levels of lead contamination in the water supplies of those two cities, triggering investigations into the cause of the pollution.
